Dredge's Cottage, formerly known as Fowler's Cottage, exemplifies late nineteenth-century Victorian architecture infused with colonial influences. Since 1987, it has served as the Veteran's Recreation Centre, the only facility of its kind in Australia.
The grounds feature a memorial wall honoring local servicemen who lost their lives in the World Wars, while a lone Aleppo pine, planted by Vice-Consul Cafe Asik and Federal MP Russell Matheson, commemorates the centenary of the Battle of Lone Pine.
Although previously thought to date from around 1890, evidence suggests it may have been built in the 1870s, showcasing a vernacular style akin to early Georgian cottages. The traditional four-room layout, along with a separate weatherboard kitchen wing, supports this earlier dating, while the Gothic-inspired verandah reflects the architectural trends of the 1870s. As the last remaining cottage on Queen Street, Fowler's Cottage stands as a testament to Campbelltown's rural heritage and is linked to notable early business figures like Daniel Fowler and the Bursill family. It is part of the significant Queen Street group, a remarkable collection of Georgian buildings that may be unique in New South Wales.
